The Long Distance Ski Championship

Swix Ski Classics starts with La Diagonela!

Due to the lack of snow, the long distance ski championships Swix Ski Classics has moved from the Jizera Mountains in Czech Republic and will take place nearby St. Moritz in the Engadin Valley, Switzerland.

St. Moritz and Engadin Valley are great winter destinations and the crew taking the challenge of hosting the race on Sunday has many years of experience with several World Cups. The possibility to arrange a race in such a short notice is not obvious and especially not this winter with poor snow conditions several places in Europe.

"We are very proud and pleased to present the new race La Diagonela as the premier of Swix Ski Classics on Sunday. In very few days we are doing our very best to make a long distance race with a track that will both challenge and please the skiers as well as showing the beautiful area of Zuoz and St.Moritz. The snow conditions are perfect and the weather forecast for the weekend should give the skiers a best possible race. We have an experienced organization making it possible to do such work with such short notice, and we hope that this year the race will be the start of a future in Swix Ski Classics", says Adriano Iseppi from La Diagonela.

"It was not an easy decision cancelling Jizerska nor deciding to go for a new race. But the good snow conditions and an experienced and positive organization in Switzerland made it possible to take a last minute decision. Not many are capable of making a great ski event in such a short notice but La Diagonela organization with their years of experience from World Cups will prove the opposite. We are pleased to give the professional skiers the opportunity to start the season and we could not have had a better option taken the snow conditions in Europe into consideration. The Swix Ski Classics organization is pleased with the cooperation and are looking forward to the premiere on Sunday", says David Nilsson, CEO Ski Classics.

The new race La Diagonela will be 52 km in classic technique with two laps starting and finishing in Zuoz Village near St. Moritz. The terrain is relatively flat but the race will be quite tuff due to an altitude of 1700 meters and the track setting.

Swix Ski Classics is the long distance ski championships, consisting of six of the most prestigious ski events in the world: La Diagonela in Switzerland replacing Jizerská Padesatká in Czech Republic, Marcialonga in Italy, König Ludwig Lauf in Germany, Vasaloppet in Sweden, Birkebeinerrennet in Norway and Årefjällsloppet the Swix Ski Classics Final.
